Modelling for froth flotation control: A review

Flotation is a conceptually simple operation; however, as multiphase process with inherent instability, it exhibits complex dynamics. One of the most efficient ways to increase flotation performance by implementing advanced controllers, such Model Predictive Control (MPC). This type controller very dependent on model that represents dynamics process. Although development one crucial parts in MPC, models have been mainly developed for simulation purposes (i.e. analysis and design) rather than control purposes. paper presents critical literature review modelling froth control. Models reviewed sub-classified empirical, phenomenological hybrid according their characteristics. In particular, highlighted so far primarily focused pulp phase, phase often neglected; when included, kinetics those used are commonly represent it. Froth physics are, dominated processes coalescence, liquid motion solids motion, which previously modelled through complex, steady-state purposes, There remains need develop appropriate more can be part MPC strategies.
